About the Circuit

SOUTH EASTERN CIRCUIT

BY DAVID SPENS QC

Leader of the Circuit

STATEMENT OF INTENT

I will seek to ensure that members of the South Eastern Circuit provide the best quality advocacy and advice so that the Circuit reflects the value of an independent referral profession.

I am concerned to advance the interests of all members of the Circuit, particularly those of sole practitioners, small chambers and junior members, and at the same time I will promote diversity.

I particularly will rely on the active support of the Bar Messes to make me aware of practitioners' needs and close contact with the Presiding and Resident Judges to protect the Bar's interests.

I intend that the South Eastern Circuit will speak with one cohesive voice.

Membership of the Circuit offers many opportunities including participating in educational activities such as the renowned Keble College and Jesus College advanced advocacy courses and specialist lectures, and collegiate activities such as the annual Circuit trip abroad and the Circuit Dinner.

Membership now operates at three levels: general for all practising members of the Bar, judicial for full time Judges, and honorary.
